Chevrolet Corvette C7 could feature a twin-turbo V6 engine

Just yesterday, Chevrolet announced that the seventh generation Corvette will be making its world debuton January 13th at the Detroit  Show. Today, new details about the future sports car have popped up. According to British magazine, AutoCar, the C7 Corvette could feature a new twin-turbo V6 alongside new and traditional V8 engines.

Chevrolet is tweaking the power offerings of the Corvette by introducing a new 5.5 liter V8 engine as an entry-level version, while the current 6.2 liter V8 engine will be offered for its top versions. The new 5.5 liter engine will feature an aluminum block and will adopt higher compression and direct injection.

Next to these two engines, Chevrolet could introduce a downsized twin-turbo V6 that will deliver the same output of a V8 engine, but be much more . This new V6 version, however, will join the line-up at a later date.

Aside from the engine tweaks, the next Corvette will offer a significant weight reduction thanks to its new carbon fiber panels, replacing the fiber glass currently used. The model will remain a front-engined and will send its power to the rear wheels.

Ah the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette; a cheap sports car that is the pride and joy of America. The first generation Corvette debuted way back in the 1950’s and there have been many iconic vehicles along the way.  Now the Corvette is in its 6th version dubbed the C6.  The base model 2012 Chevrolet Corvette costs $49,525 and comes with a 6.2L V-8 engine that produces 436 horsepower and 428 lb-ft of torque.  Rest assured the Corvette is a dyed in the wool sports car.  Everything about the 2012 Chevrolet Corvette speaks to its performance and history.  Top speed is 190 MPH and 0-60 zooms by in 4.2 seconds.  These are serious numbers for a base model Corvette indeed.  Oh and the fuel economy numbers are not half bad at 16 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.  If you feel frisky there are other models like the Gran Sport, Z06, and ZR1 but these are all much more expensive.  The base model 2012 Chevrolet Corvette coupe provides more bang for you buck than any other cheap sports car on the market today.
